6PACK Hub for 3 TNCs

This article describes a simple and flexible hub for up to 3 6pack TNCs on a single host serial port.

The hub was designed to utilise RJ45 modular connectors, cable, and RJ45 to DBxx adapters. It is constructed from 2 wall mount 2xRJ45 boxes secured back to back to each other with nylon ties. The boxes that I used had 110 punchdown termination, so it was a simple job to thread a little jumper wire through the boxes and wire them up. The diagram below shows the wiring that was used to suit the RJ45 to DB adapters that I use.

I have used flat 8 wire modular cables for interconnecting the components, you could use 4 wire RJ11 or RJ12, or  6 wire RJ12 cables between the RJ45 to DBxx for more flexible cables. In any event, remember that the cables use 1-1 pinning, so don't use an RJ11 cable designed for phone use that it not pinned 1-1.

Note that any unused sockets need to be filled with a dummy plug to ensure ring continuity.
